Hey my friend!
I’m so excited to photograph your family in the sunflowers! This location is so stunning and I can’t wait to get your family in front of my camera!
Let’s talk about logistics first, and then I’ll give you specifics!
The location of your session is at Rowley’s Red Barn in Santaquin, UT. This is such a fun little destination to visit, so I highly suggest you plan to spend a little extra time hanging out there.
They’ve changed things a little bit, but a photographer friend of mine has given me as much info as she could, so I’m hoping things will go smoothly. You’ll need to park at the Barn and then head inside. I was able to get a great group rate, so I already got the tickets. Just go to the front desk and let them know you’re with me and pick up your tickets. Then you’ll need to get on the hay wagon, and they’ll drive you over to the sunflower fields. They wont let you drive your car to the fields (so annoying!), so please plan to arrive approximately 15-20 before your session time. And take some allergy medicine before hand if a hayride is going to bug you! Sorry about that–hopefully the kids love it!
Once you arrive, come find me! I’m not exactly sure where I’ll be (probably moving around a bit, honestly), so if you don’t see me, I’ll come find you when it’s time to start.
Your session will last 30 minutes, but you’re welcome to stay with your family as long as you’d like! Last year there were lots of fun things to do! Your ticket also includes a sunflower for each person, but please wait to cut yours until our session (it’s always a fun activity to photograph).
Once you’re ready to head back, you’ll just hop back on the wagon and they’ll take you back to your car.
Now, about your actual session!
As far as your session, here are my recommendations:
-Feed yours kids before you come. We don’t want hangry kids! It makes ALL the difference in the world if your kids aren’t hungry.
-Please arrive early. Because mini sessions are so short, your time will start promptly at your scheduled time, and will end promptly 30 minutes later. I totally understand that things happen, but I stack mini session dates with multiple families to be able to offer discounted sessions. So being late will mean a shorter session. No exceptions.
–Please don’t bring treats to bribe your kids. Kids often get fixated on the treats mom brought, and can’t think about anything else. If you feel like treats are the only way to get their cooperation, let me know and I’ll bring some fruit snacks or smarties. When they are my snacks, kids don’t feel entitled to them. Another alternative is to tell them they get something (ice cream, or a trip to the dollar store, or something) AFTER the session (Rowley’s Red Barn has lots of fun ice cream and treats. Maybe that’s an option?). But trust me when I say, I’m good at getting your kids to smile and cooperate without treats!
-Try to relax and let the session flow. I know family photos are stressful on mom, but once you arrive let me assume the stress and try to have a good time! Your photos will look best if you’re relaxed and let your kids be their silly selves.
-Please shoot me a message before your session if there is anything I need to know (maybe you have a child who is sensitive to loud noises, or dad can’t walk up stairs very well, or you want to make sure we get a photo of your twins holding hands and walking, etc. e-tc. etc.) Please let me know about any special requests or extenuating circumstances in advance!
-I’ll also be sending you a text (you probably already have it), with a couple questions about your family so I can document who you really are. Please get those answers sent back to me by 3 pm the day of the session. I like to have a little time to review and plan before your session actually starts.
