Hey hey!
I’m so excited for your session coming up! We’re going to create some stunning images of your family, and this is the perfect location for that!
This location is magical! Here is the location on google maps:
Albion Basin is part of the Alta Ski Resort. You’ll drive up Little Cottonwood Canyon–alllllll the way up. You’ll get to Alta Ski Resort, just stay on the main road until you come to the toll booth. Stop at the booth and pay the fee (I think it’s just $10), and then you’ll continue straight onto the dirt road. Follow that road up until you reach the summit–you’ll see a parking lot & bathroom, and then the road will curve and start going down. Park at that parking lot. I’ll meet you there!
If you’ve made it all the to the camp ground, you’ve gone too far. Head back the way you came and park at the parking lot there. You’ll know it when you see it, there is only one road, and only one parking lot.
Now, about your actual session!
As far as your session, here are my recommendations:
-Feed your kids before you come. We don’t want hangry kids!
-Please arrive 10 or so minutes early. Because mini sessions are so short, your time will start promptly at your scheduled time, and will end promptly 30 minutes later. I totally understand that things happen, but I stack mini session dates with multiple families to be able to offer discounted sessions. So being late will mean a shorter session. No exceptions.
-Not to be repetitive, but again, please arrive early. This location is very popular, and Alta monitors is very closely. They will only let as many cars up as they have parking spots for, and then when they’re full, you have to wait until a car comes back down. I recommend planning to arrive 15-20 minutes early, so that if you have to sit at the gate for a while you’ll still arrive on time.
-Please don’t bring treats to bribe your kids. Kids often get fixated on the treats mom brought, and can’t think about anything else. If you feel like treats are the only way to get their cooperation, let me know and I’ll bring some fruit snacks or smarties. When they are my snacks, kids don’t feel entitled to them. Another alternative is to tell them they get something (ice cream, or a trip to the dollar store, or something) AFTER the session. But trust me when I say, I’m good at getting your kids to smile and cooperate without treats!
-Try to relax and let the session flow. I know family photos are stressful, but once you arrive let me assume the stress and try to have a good time! Enjoy the beautiful scenery and time loving on and snuggling your family!
-Please shoot me a message before the day of your session if there is anything I need to know (maybe you have a child who is sensitive to loud noises, or dad can’t walk up stairs very well, or you want to make sure we get a photo of your twins holding hands and walking, etc. etc. etc.) Please let me know about any special requests or extenuating circumstances in advance!
What should we wear?
Picking out your outfits can be so stressful! I’m here to help! If you need suggestions or feedback, shoot me a message. I’m happy to help!
For this location, I love light flowey fabrics and light, bright colors. This is such a lovely, dreamy location, and I find that anything “whimsical” works best! Dresses with movement, summery silhouettes, and lot of light colors.
